Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium is highly prized for its robust medicinal properties and its slightly tougher texture, primarily produced in the mountainous regions of Huoshan, ensuring top-tier quality. Crafted using traditional methods with minimal processing, Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium retains much of its original form and beneficial compounds. Its name derives from its unique iron-grey outer skin, which resembles the resilience and strength of iron, hence the name "Tiepi," meaning "Iron Skin." Known as one of the most valuable herbs in traditional Chinese medicine, it has earned the nickname "the King of Medicinal Herbs."
Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium has been used since the Qin Dynasty (221–206 BC) and is valued for its rich content of polysaccharides, alkaloids, and trace minerals. Its primary health benefits include nourishing yin, tonifying the stomach, boosting immunity, and supporting overall well-being.
Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium presents a unique appearance with thicker, cylindrical stems that are slightly tougher and more fibrous than other Dendrobium species. When brewed, the tea is a pale golden-yellow color with a mild herbal scent. The taste is subtle yet full-bodied, offering a balanced blend of bitterness and sweetness, with a slight hint of earthy undertones. The tea has a thicker texture in the mouth compared to Huoshan Dendrobium and leaves a lingering, warm aftertaste.
Flavor Notes: Herbal, earthy, mildly bitter with a sweet aftertaste
1.Take 3-5 grams of Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium and 300-500 milliliters of water, adjusting the amount based on the container size.
2.Place the Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium in 100°C hot water and steep for 5-10 minutes, or simmer for 30-60 minutes to extract more medicinal properties.
3.Observe the tea turning golden-yellow. The stems should remain somewhat firm even after brewing.
4.Pour the tea into a cup for drinking. For a stronger infusion, allow longer steeping times or boil further.
5.Natural honey can be added according to personal taste to balance the slight bitterness.
6.This tea can be brewed multiple times, generally up to 5-6 infusions.
7.After brewing, the stems can be chewed directly for additional health benefits.
Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium is cultivated in the high-altitude regions of the Dabie Mountains in Anhui Province. This area is characterized by a subtropical monsoon climate, providing the optimal environment for Tiepi Dendrobium to thrive. The average annual temperature is around 14-17°C, with a long frost-free period, and receives ample rainfall, about 1500-1800 mm annually. The soil in this region is acidic to neutral (pH 5.0-6.5), rich in organic matter, and perfect for the growth of Tiepi Dendrobium. The mountain's misty environment and pristine forests further enhance the quality of the plants.
Origin: Dabie Mountain, Anhui Province
The production process of Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium follows traditional artisanal techniques with several key steps such as harvesting, cleaning, drying, and low-temperature processing.
1.Harvesting: Tiepi Dendrobium is harvested in the spring or autumn during the peak period when the stems are fully developed. The harvest is done manually to ensure the plants are not damaged, with only the strongest and healthiest stems being picked.
2.Cleaning: After harvesting, the stems undergo thorough cleaning to remove dirt, dust, and other impurities while preserving the natural color and structure of the Dendrobium.
3.Drying: Tiepi Dendrobium is carefully air-dried in a controlled environment to reduce moisture content while maintaining its natural toughness and medicinal properties.
4.Low-Temperature Processing: Low-temperature drying or baking is essential to retain the bioactive compounds, such as polysaccharides and alkaloids, preventing the degradation of the herbal elements. This also helps to preserve the texture and flavor of Tiepi Dendrobium.
Due to its tougher texture, Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium is processed with particular attention to maintaining its form. This ancient technique not only preserves the herb’s medicinal potency but also reflects the cultural importance of natural healing. As a result, Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium remains a highly sought-after ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine.
Harvesting Cycle: Huoshan Tiepi Dendrobium is harvested every 4-6 years, depending on the growth rate and environmental factors.
