The main production area is in the Dabie Mountains of Anhui, a region characterized by high altitude and dense forests. The annual average temperature ranges from 14-17℃, with a frost-free period of about 240-280 days. The area receives abundant rainfall, around 1,500-1,800 mm annually, and maintains a relative humidity of over 75%. The soil is predominantly rich, slightly acidic mountain soil, with a pH level of 5.0-6.0; the soil layers are deep and fertile. This environment is ideal for the growth of Dendrobium and other medicinal herbs.

The harvesting and production of Huoshan Dendrobium Flower involve several key steps: picking, cleaning, natural drying, and low-temperature baking. The most important step is the drying process, as it directly affects the preservation of the flower's aroma and medicinal properties. The flowers are typically harvested in the early morning during the peak blooming season in spring and early summer, ensuring they are at their freshest. After picking, the flowers are carefully cleaned to remove any impurities, ensuring that the natural quality of the petals is maintained.
The drying process is conducted under controlled conditions to preserve the delicate nutrients and bioactive compounds in the flowers. First, the flowers are air-dried in the shade, allowing moisture to evaporate slowly while keeping the flower’s shape and essential oils intact. The low-temperature baking process follows, which is essential to prevent the loss of valuable components such as polysaccharides, alkaloids, and flavonoids. This step ensures that the flowers maintain their light fragrance and golden color, ready for brewing or medicinal use.
The production of Huoshan Dendrobium Flower can be divided into three main methods: Natural Drying, Controlled Heat Drying, and Mixed-Method Drying. The differences between these methods primarily lie in how the drying process is managed to balance moisture retention and nutrient preservation. The timing and intensity of drying can influence the final flavor and potency of the flower.
Natural Drying: This method involves shade drying.
Controlled Heat: This technique uses low-temperature baking.
Mixed-Method: This combines dual-stage drying, incorporating both shade and baking.
Production Time: Spring to Early Summer.
Huoshan Dendrobium Flower is harvested once every three years.
